Hoop Dancing Regalia

I first met Sandra when she created the most beautiful hoop dancing regalia for my oldest son. While she was explaining what the design meant, I knew I wanted to learn more from her. She accepted my request to be my Cultural Mentor while completing my Ph.D. studies at Trent University. She continues to mentor me, both artistically and professionally. For the past three years, I have been attending quilling classes at Hiawatha First Nation. Her enthusiastic spirit is something I look forward to every week. I have enjoyed her teachings on birch bark and quill harvesting; and dyeing quills, caribou hair, and fish scales. Sandra is dedicated to learning Anishinaabe traditional methods and has taught me how important it is to pass on our traditions. She shares her gifts with anyone that approaches with respect and humility. I am honored to include her not only as a mentor but as a friend.
